The boy glanced up at her only once; it was enough, however, for her to see the faint satisfied grin of approval lingering at the corners of his mouth. Gabriella felt drained, and she couldn’t even muster the energy to try to respond in kind. The fight with the dragon had exhausted her physically; the fight at the courtyard, however, had left her emotionally exhausted and weak – even exposed, in a way that she hated feeling around other people.
