The wall was incredibly tall, and it felt to Gabriella like she climbed for hours. She didn’t pause, however, and she didn’t look down; she kept her attention on the next step, and simply worked her way slowly higher and higher. The mist ended all at once, like emerging from a bad dream, and she blinked as warm golden sunlight poured down on her like honey and tea. The end of the stairs was not so far above, she could see now, but thankfully so was the end of the wall, and within minutes she had pulled herself up onto the top. The wind curled around her body like a lover’s caress, and then it was gone.
