Thirty-Eight

The amber ward vanished with a thought, and fury raged within Gabriella as a reflection of the storm above. Now that she could look around, she could see the flash of lightning, and hear the crack of thunder, and the air felt thick and heavy as icy raindrops lashed Gabriella’s skin like tiny razors. The flat disk at the top of the cone was gone, retracted back into the surrounding walls, and the the thick storm clouds above churned with violent apprehension. A driving rain lashed through the opening, and the walls gleamed with a coat of water. Gabriella stood up, and turned slowly, searching the room for Diane.
